Traditional Lake District Accommodation
“How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains!” (John Muir)
Dear All,
Just a brief missive to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.As Storm Caroline heralds a wintery blast we, at the Royal Oak, are doing our festive planning. Menu’s, orders, deliveries & rotas – it’s going to be a busy time, especially with our East Europeans having Brexited! Round up your Celts, Picts and Anglo Saxons and get them to post their CV’s.
Don’t you just love this picture of Castle Crag! – our iconic little mountain is so often used as a “stretch your legs” walk by those that yearn to reacquaint themselves with our beautiful valley. Here the blend of autumns’ lingering russets glow in the late morning light as Skiddaw stands behind, frozen and aloof. My thanks to Peter Tasker Gallery.
Missing the Lakeland Fells you love so much? Click the picture to watch a short film of the hills in winter.
See how many scenes you can identify – There’s an extra night’s stay free of charge to the individual who’s  first to correctly identify the scene at 2.08 minutes – just the spur you need to get you all reaching for the phone to book your next adventure!
Thirlmere Zip Wire! What’s your opinion?:
While we at The Royal Oak were not vehemently against the proposal a few years ago to have an aerial zip-wire at Honister Mine ( an area already established as blending both Industrial & Adventure Activity) – we are very concerned about the proposals to have multiple Zip Wires zinging across Thirlmere. Follow the link to read about this at Cumbria Crack – and if you feel strongly join the petition here.
