Cumbria Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve

With your help we hope to raise £600 annually to meet the on going running costs of

maintaining this important wildlife haven.

This mature oak wood is an ancient woodland site possibly re-planted in the 18th century.

Apart from oaks; sycamore, sweet chestnut and beech are present. Its relative inaccessibility ensures a haven for wildlife amongst the Forestry Commission conifers surrounding Dodd. The ground flora reflects the acidic nature of the under- lying rock and includes wood sage, bluebell and wood anemone.

The Trust maintains a number of nest boxes which are regularly used by pied flycatchers, redstarts and tits. Great spotted and green woodpecker, wood warbler and tawny owl also breed.

Many agencies are involved with conservation and some like The National Trust have made a significant difference to the quality of the Lake District environment. You may already belong to such a conservation charity, however we hope you will still want to support this scheme.
What makes the Tourism & Conservation Partnership unique is the attempt to encourage all who directly enjoy the local environment to help maintain and enhance the area they have visited. As a hotel we appreciate the enormous attraction that the beauty of The Lake District has for visitors and hope to assist in the collection of voluntary contributions to help maintain this fantastic landscape.

Your Contribution will:

Enhance the beauty of the local landscape

Maintain valuable wildlife habitat

Provide employment for estate contractors

Encourage greater Government funding for conservation by demonstrating your concern
